Friends of St Giles Hill Graveyard

About Friends of St Giles Hill Graveyard

The Friends of St Giles Hill Graveyard are a group of people who have banded together to preserve and protect the social and historic importance of St Giles Hill Graveyard, upholding its original purpose as a place of reflection and remembrance of the people buried there, and to conserve its value as a wildlife haven.

It is a community project involving people from the nearby communities of Winnall, Highcliffe, St Giles Hill, and further afield. It is hoped that any project will benefit all these communities and beyond. The scope of work that could be carried out in the graveyard is wide but, at the present time, resources are limited, and expectations are realistic. A detailed plan has been compiled and can be reviewed in the following section.

As a community based group we strive to improve the graveyard to benefit the surrounding local communities providing a safe and accessible open space and offering volunteering and skill building opportunities to those communities.

The group will endeavour to improve and maintain the graveyard as a benefit to wildlife and as a part of a strategy that encompasses the South Downs habitat network that includes Magdalen Hill Down, the adjoining St Giles Hill Park, Winnall Moors and St Catherines Hill.
